What makes Elias Dream’s work interesting is the way he has the ability to turn emotions into stories that you can see. Born in Ukraine and based in Italy since 2000, he applies a broad musical imagination to his songwriting and moves easily from rap through melody, rock, to cinematic sound. His music is not concerned with just saying “this hurts” but rather with showing us the reason why it hurts. In “Serra,” he applies this storytelling approach and goes straight into the shadows, producing a song that feels like a tense scene being played out in real time.

“The Serra” presents a deeply disturbing account of how attention can develop into obsession, then progress to stalking and threaten those involved. The theme is serious and uncomfortable, and it is dealt with by maintaining a strong sense of tension rather than relying on cheap shocks. Sections of the story manage to bring listeners nearer to the edge, causing you to wonder what will happen next. This is one of Elias Dream’s major strengths: he realises that a good story-song shouldn’t explain everything at once, but instead should draw you in, raise questions, and leave you emotionally involved in the situation.

The track makes use of contrast, and Elias Dream does so effectively. The way he raps is direct and conversational, almost as if he’s speaking from within the situation rather than performing from outside it. This gives the narrative a natural and personal touch, while the melodic sections give an additional emotional dimension. His performance is not intended to show off but to serve the story; his voice takes on the role of narrator and character, and this controlled delivery means that the more serious moments have an even greater impact.

The song gains its cinematic strength from the use of guitars, which give it a raw rock character, while natural textures prevent it from sounding overly refined or artificial. The Hammond B3 is then introduced with its warm and slightly gritty Leslie sound — a lovely feature that has now become an essential element of the Elias Dream identity. In contrast to the more sombre themes, this Hammond sound provides a strangely human quality, somewhat like a flicker of light in a very dark room.

At its finest, “Serra” makes it clear why Elias Dream is a project worth paying attention to; his songs don’t just go through your ears; they produce mental images. The blend of storytelling, rap, melodic vocals, rock energy, cinematic production, and that special Hammond organ gives him a unique personality. Although “Serra” tells a disturbing story, musically it is an engaging and beautifully put-together piece that leaves you feeling curious, uneasy, and attentive as you wait for the next scene.
