The band, made up of Kieran Moloney, David Payne, Paul Hathaway, and Peter Fisher, combines the heavy sound of mid-90s metal with the fierce energy of hardcore. Their second single, “A Light Went On,” showcases this identity: loud, aggressive, urgent, and completely defiant. It feels like four musicians have decided to abandon subtlety.
The first half of the song drives forward with sharp guitar riffs and a rhythm section that hits hard. Moloney’s vocals carry a raw edge. They sound more like a warning from within the chaos than a polished performance. His delivery is strong and commanding, matching the furious pace without losing its place. When the track shifts to its powerful groove in the second half, his voice sinks into the music, creating a jarring effect like falling from a speeding vehicle into a concrete wall.
Lyrically, the song targets government control, mass manipulation, and how power can steer public opinion. The animated video adds another layer, providing a visual style that matches its darker themes. What makes the theme resonate is that the band does not preach from a safe distance. The production also deserves praise for channeling all that energy. The guitars pack a hard punch, the bass brings strength, and Hathaway’s drumming offers relentless impact, making the song feel bigger than its length. The arrangement is clever since the song doesn’t maintain maximum speed throughout. The slower groove hits harder because the band makes us wait for it.

With their album “The Brutal Truth” expected later this year, this single works as a promising teaser of what they’ve been cooking. For me, the song’s greatest strength lies in its confrontational nature: it doesn’t ask for attention; it grabs you. The brutality is the point, and when that final groove hits, it’s impossible not to feel it.
