Spyderhuff is a Detroit-based band made up of Tom Kuhr (singer, guitarist, harmonica, sax, and synth), Don Beyer (bassist and synth), Jim Pauli (drummer), Joey Gaydos (guitarist), Tony Mitchell (congas, bongos, drums, and backing vocals), and Julie Noe (backing vocalist). Spyderhuff’s new single “Girl in the Photo” is the third in the SIN7 series about the Seven Deadly Sins and was published on May 27, 2022.

Inspired by classics such as The Black Keys, The B-52s, Beck, Moby, and Warren Zevon, their music has a vintage and timeless feel to it. In terms of this latest release, “Girl In The Photo” is a pretty fascinating tune that begins with a noticeable bassline before exploding into some furious chords when you start listening although it is done on purpose.

The voices help to strengthen the melody’s slow march into the dark. The vocal delivery has a vintage rock feel about it, curling with soaring emotion. You are dragged into an unmistakable passion for someone through the singing, which gradually grows into an infatuation that you know you should not have. The words deliver a magnificent hammering of passion and the verboten that gradually drives you insane. The melody’s gloom creeps into the voice, warning you that the path you’re on might end horribly

The voices take a unique style that is enjoyable to listen to. More layers of guitar, bass, and percussion raise them while the song includes a solid dose of synth work to match the overall sound. The entire song maintains the same structure, and although being repeated, it does not sound terrible. The voices include some excellent harmonies that patch up the gaps in the tune. “Girl In The Photo” is an incredible tune, and the band’s effort is evident. They are hardworking musicians whose music will define them in the future.

Notable Lyrics

I saw your photo on the screen
I want you more than anything
My girlfriend’s calling on the phone
I can have her all day long
My heart wants its poison, its toxic brew
The girl in the photo, not the real you
My next-door neighbor wears dresses every day
I undress her and do her every way
